• The term Out of the Box means shifting away and thinking different from conventional methods, being innovative and coming up with new ideas to get to a solution.
To be accepted into the mainstream, our society and occupation have taught us to follow a set of rules that we have to stick to. This is good to a certain extent, but in effect, it also limits our thinking and creates a ‘box’ around us in the first place.
By adhering to the set of rules put in place by powers that be, an invisible  boundary limits our thinking as we consistently try to stay within the box (of conventional thinking), limiting our creativity in more ways than one.
Looking closer, we come to realize that education, society along with other factors have had a great influence in fashioning a box around us since our early years, and we live in this box day in and day out for most of our lives.
While it is nonetheless important to get one self to stick to rules of the society and the workplace in general, if we are to unleash the creativity in us, the rigid box we have created around ourselves has to be constructively broken.
Initially, this can be a difficult task. But with effort and determination, it can be done. Now let’s see what can help us jump over, and out of the box.

    Focus Your Ideas

    Focus your ideas

Freedom is a good thing. But too much of it can put brakes on your creativity. Setting up a boundary takes the pressure off and makes your memory function better. As a result, your ideas gain in depth and breadth, and become easily anchored.
Brainstorm and focus your thinking by building up a set of specific ideas. For example, if it involves coming up with a mobile application or website development and design strategy, list ten things that you are capable of doing, or crowd-source ten ideas. Then work up on multiple prompts and jot down all bits of whatever comes up in your mind, even if it’s not concretely associated.

    First Quantity, Next Quality

    Quantity then Quality
Once you begin generating ideas, put the brakes on your internal evaluator. Empty out the stockpile of all ‘acceptable’ ideas. Now get yourself to think about solutions that seem to be incorrect or even illogical.
Remember, by thinking from a different angle, there is always room for loosely associated ideas to be improvised and matched up with the facts.

    Take Inspiration from Unrelated Sources

    Inspire from unrelated sources

Thinking outside the box often requires triggering your brain. For this, try to acquire inspiration from entirely unrelated sources that in no way relate to the task at hand. This will push your thinking beyond its limits and help generate ideas that you would not come up with in normal situations.

Example in case, you are working for an IT company and have a work related problem. Take cues by asking your child about that problem and completely hear him out as he starts shooting questions at you instead of providing you with any answers. You will be surprised at the fresh perspective you gain from the child for working out possible solutions.
